Sunshine

We finally have sunshine and I thought it would be the perfect day to show off one of my favorite rooms, the master bedroom. This photo is taken in the hallway looking into my bedroom. Just to the right inside the doorway is a mirrored bi-fold door which is the walk in closet.

This window dosen't really let any light in but it is a neat design feature.

You can see in this photo the singles which is the outside of the home.

This is looking down onto the porch that is directly below the above window or skylight ( which ever you prefer ). Today we vacucummed out all of the spider webs and creepy crawlies and windexed like crazy. I didn't take a "before" photo, but you can use your imagination! The deck can be excessed from the livingroom.

This photo was taken from the half wall right beside the skylight. We can look down into the livingroom and there you see the bar in the back left and the ray of sunshine from the sliding glass door that leads to the deck.

Standing at the half wall and facing the other way you see the rest of the bedroom. Thats my side of the bed and a sitting area. Just before I took these photos Stephen removed the fireplace that had been in our room so there are some piles. ( swear I've been trying to keep this place in order). Anyway it will make the "after" photos more dramatic.

More windows, more light! That black hole at centre bottom is my master ensuite. Yep no door on the angled doorway. Not crazy about that. Maybe down the road that will get straightened ( literally ) and a door hung.

In this photo I'm laying on my bed and you can see the sunshine flooding in. At night it is neat to see the stars and moon pass by the windows. fabulous!

A Carpet of Orange

It has stopped raining and now there is a carpet of orange! We had pouring rain and 40km an hour winds. All the dead Cedar bits fell like snow. It was pretty to watch from the warmth and dryness of the house. Needless to say there is no photo of the house lit up at night. I tried but the motion sensor light mounted high in a tree to light up the driveway kept coming on. I'll try again soon.

Still Raining

Its still raining!
I'm thinking of striping all the wood from inside the house and building an ark! I guess its forcing me to do some stuff inside but its so gloomy that interior photos are a bit tricky. Stephen reminded me how cool the house looks at night all lit up so I said "then remind me to take a photo of it"! Here's hoping I have a "night" photo to show you tomorrow.

Sunshine and Rain

Well before my house guests arrived for Thanksgiving Weekend it was cold and rainy, really yucky! Then they arrived and it was clear blue skies and very, very warm days and nights. Now that they are gone home so has the nice weather. We are back to rain and cool temps. In the spirit of Thanksgiving I will be thankfull for our beautiful weekend that allowed us to trim some trees, build a fire pit and make some smores! We spent alot of time outside enjoying our new space and we love all of it. The property has 98% Cedar trees, 1% Pine trees and 1% Other trees and bushes. We do have one clump of Sumac and it is ablaze right now and so reminds me of my childhood and fills me with happy memories.

Wildlife

Well it's officially been a week since we have moved in and I have taken a couple of days off of unpacking and organizing to visit with my daughter and grand-daughter. They are visiting for the weekend and enjoying Turkey Day here in Canada with us!  The weather has been gorgeous and today it is 25 degrees! We have taken advantage of the weather to explore outside a bit. The wildlife is abundant here in the cedars. I have seen a pair of chipmunks, a pair of Blue jays and lots of little chickadee's. There are lots of cats around and Tanner has seen a rabbit and there is talk of a 4 year old male bear out back on the crown land! It will be OK if we don't see him :)

At the top

This is the highest point of the roof line at the centre of the house. In the closet by the front door is a crank handle to open this window to let heat escape. This photo was taken from my bedroom doorway.

Let there be light

It is late afternoon on a sunny day and there is beautiful light flooding in! This is looking up to the second floor and that is the master bedroom doorway to the left. Across the hall from us is Mackenzie's room and at the top of the stairs on the right is Maddi's bedroom.

Entrance

As you enter the front door you greeted with the mess we are calling home! Nice big coat closet to the left and no one is using it for it's intended purpose! If the height of the closet looks a little short to you, there's a reason. The room that is above the closet is actually the main bath that services all the bedrooms except the master. If you open the cabinets under the sink in that bathroom, it has been closed off for the closet. ( Hope that makes sense) One of those quirky things that are everywhere in this house. Some positives though, I love the natural light that the windows let in. I do need to get a thin console table with a lamp for right inside the door as there is no lighting here. Most of the house is lit with wall sconces because for the era and slope of the walls/ceilings.

Welcome

As you walk up to the house this is the front door. The house it self does not touch any dirt. It rests on cement piers and steel beams. There is a bridge "like" walkway that's got some real bounce to it when you walk up to the front door. Stephen has looked and it has been repaired many times and needs to be ripped out and replaced$$$$$. In the bottom right you can just see the piers and beams and the slope of the escarpment that the house hangs over.

We have moved!

This is our new house! Some have called it a Hobbit House ( you know who you are ) and most just stop and stare and aren't sure what to say. We love, Love, LoVe it! It's very different from a traditional home and is taking some getting used to. It was built in 1969 and is showing its age. Through this blog I hope to share our ideas for renovating and decorating this very unique place we call home.
